ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
Broadway, America, its vastness, its paradoxes, its cultural richness and plurality, so many dreams communicated to us by music that reflects all these states.
To make this ideal a reality, we had the idea of bringing together the singers of Dulci Jubilo with the Autre Big band, a Toulouse wind ensemble full of energy and inventiveness.
This programme gives pride of place to the composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein, a key figure in twentieth-century American music, made famous in particular by his musical 'West Side Story'. We'll be performing some of his masterpieces. Also on the programme are two lesser-played but equally enjoyable works: the Chichester psalms and 'Mass', ecumenical works that call on humanity to live together in tolerance.
The Dulci Jubilo chamber choir will be performing Samuel Barber's famous 'Agnus Dei' a cappella, a veritable cry for elsewhere. Last but not least, the Autre big Band will be offering arrangements and original compositions for wind ensemble, sometimes with the help of the Dulci Jubilo singers. In short, it's a festive event on a grand musical scale, celebrating some of the finest musicals and American choral music of the 20th century.
