ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
At the heart of this concert, Greek composer Savvas Karantzias' work Katharsis (2023-2024) for mixed choir, percussion and solo violin offers a vast meditation on inner resonance and the unifying power of musical language. A true contemporary mass in nine parts, dedicated to Arvo Pärt and Veljo Tormis, it unites the Greek and Estonian sound worlds in a deeply spiritual composition.
Echoing this, French composer Christopher Gibert presents Hymnus, an original creation inspired by a 13th-century Occitan-Cathar manuscript, combining texts from the New Testament and ‘consolament’ rites. This rare source guides his quest for light and simplicity, giving rise to a musical language that is both sensual and contemplative. This unique testimony is extended by verses composed for this creation by author Frank T'Hézan, which create a sensitive dialogue between the manuscript and the contemporary words that resonate within it.
