LICHT !

This program goes beyond the simple framework of a concert of motets by Johann Sebastian Bach. Conceived as a performance, ‘LICHT !’ brings Bach's music into resonance with a contemporary narrative written especially for this project by Stéphane Héaume. This tailor-made text weaves a dramatic link between the motets and their themes, offering the audience a new way of interpreting these polyphonic masterpieces.

The musical interpretation remains faithful to the spirit of Bach, with a careful continuo, while opening up to contemporary creation: an original work by Thierry Escaich, commissioned for this programme, extends and illuminates the legacy of the motets. ‘LICHT !’ offers a sonic and emotional impact that transcends the boundaries between eras, providing an immersive and accessible experience, where Bach's music and contemporary creation meet with a new intensity.

My approach as an organist, composer and conductor gives me the impression of rediscovering an old acquaintance, one who has always been with me and whom I always want to defend by renewing my listening to him.
