ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
French Heritage and Enlightenment
This program invites you to immerse yourself in the heart of French musical aesthetics, celebrating sacred music that embraces light, fluid lines, and a rich harmonic palette. At the center of this journey shines Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, Op. 9, an undisputed masterpiece of the 20th century, presented here in its version for choir and grand organ. Far from the terrors of the Last Judgment, this score, woven around Gregorian chant, exudes absolute serenity.
To open this concert, two paths are offered, each lending a unique tone to the evening. The first option features a masterful instrumental prelude with Duruflé’s Organ Suite. From the mystery of his “Prelude” to the dazzling brilliance of his famous “Toccata,” via the elegance of the “Sicilienne,” it explores the instrument’s immense sonic palette and offers a spectacular immersion in the composer’s organistic genius. The second option takes a bold leap into contemporary composition with a Mass for choir and organ by Thomas Ospital. Following in the noble tradition of Fauré, Ravel, and Duruflé, this world premiere continues the refinement of the French school, elevating the melodic line through the prism of carefully crafted neomodal harmonies.
This program promises a timeless acoustic and spiritual experience, where sound is transformed into light
