ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
From Shadow to Light: A Musical Tapestry of the Grand Siècle
This program unfolds with striking chiaroscuro. It opens in an atmosphere of intimacy and contemplation with André Campra’s *De profundis*. “From the depths, I cry out to you”: through its exceptional harmonic richness, this work plunges us into anguish and supplication, illustrating the gravity of the doubts that can grip the heart.
Then, like dawn dispelling the night, hope is reborn. Also penned by Campra, the great master of vocal color, the *Cantate Domino* resounds like an invitation to sing a new song. This virtuosic and luminous piece marks a return to joy and prepares the audience for the evening’s triumphant climax.
It is then that the first, universally famous notes of Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s *Te Deum* will resound. The majestic brilliance of the trumpets and the roll of the timpani suddenly give way to collective jubilation and the pomp of Versailles. More than just a ceremonial piece, this masterpiece is an immense sonic architecture where the inner depth of prayer blends with the most radiant joy.
Let yourself be carried away by the splendor of the Grand Siècle and by these universal passions that, across the centuries, still resonate so powerfully today.
